Formal award document for the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross

Formal award document for the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross, awarding the Knights Cross to General Major Rudolf Wulf, the former commander of the island of Jersey. This island being the largest island of the Channel islands which was the only part of the British Isles to be occupied by the German forces in WW2.

Large award document contained in the original large red leatherette folder, cover of folder displays a large closed wing gilt eagle and swastika Document awarding the knight cross of the iron cross to Major Rudolf Wulf dated 13.11.1942 and with good ink signature of Adolf Hitler. The document is in fine condition, the red leatherette fold is also in very nice condition and is stamped on the inside bottom edge with the manufacturer's name; Frieda Thiersch. The top and bottom tip of the spine of the folder shows a very slight split, which is often seen on these folders.

Rudolf Wulf was born in 1905, he served with a number of infantry regiments in WW2, and was awarded the Knights cross for bravery in Russia in 1942. On the 19.8.1944 he was awarded the oakleaves to the Knights Cross as the commander of the 319th infantry division, again for bravery in Russia, late 1944 he was promoted to General Major at this time he was only 39 years old. He was then sent to the island of Jersey as island commander, a position he held until the end of the war when he surrendered the island to the British forces in May 1945 on the British naval ship HMS Beagle. He was later sent on to Plymouth and then on to London for interrogation as a prisoner of war. General Wulf died on the 14.11.1972.

Unique chance to obtain a knight cross document to the commander of one of the channel islands,the only part of the British isles to be occupied by German forces in WW2, historically important, a part of British history which should perhaps be on display at the Imperial War Museum London or one of the military museums on the Channel islands. The document is complete with some research and photos concerning General Wulf.
