SILVER LIONS HEAD CAVALRY OFFICERS SWORD.

This very interesting sword dates from the late 1920's and into the early Third Reich period. The sword was produced in brass with a heavy silver plate with no trace of gilt finish, the sword probably belonged to an army officer but these are usually in gilt finish so the other possibility is that it belonged to an SS officer who did carry silver lions head swords in the early period of the Third Reich. Impressive silver lions head hilt, the back strap is highly decorated as is the knuckle bow, the crossguard langet features a pair of cavalry crossed swords and the tip of the crossguard features a highly detailed small lion head. The black celluloid grip is complete with silver grip wire and it is in perfect condition. The blade is in excellent condition just showing slight wear but it is still very nice. Complete with black scabbard showing age wear to the finish but still looks nice, the obverse side of the scabbard is stamped with the number, 7589 (the last two digests are double stamped), this could be an army accountability number or even an SS officers issue number.
The last photograph in the set shows the sword with an SS knot attached but this is not included in the price and it is just to illustrate how it could be displayed but I do have several original SS knots available and it certainly looks very impressive with the knot attach.
