EARLY VICTORIAN POCKET KNIFE BY H.G.LONG SHEFFIELD.
Early Victorian pocket knife. Both sides of the knife steel plates are engraved with a tape measure design, one side is marked London for inches and the other side is marked Metre. The knife is fitted with three blades of different lengths one of which is maker marked H.G.Long Sheffield, the knife is also fitted with three other tools, one of which seems to be held in place by pressure or at least it is now and it is surprising that it is still with the pocket knife after so long and has not been lost. H.G.Long of Sheffield was established about 1828, he had a number of partners over the yeas who died or left the company, the business was eventually closed in 1862 when Long emigrated to New Zealand and unfortunately died soon after.
