VERY LARGE WW1 TRENCH ART GERMAN FIELD GUN SHELL CASE.

Very large German brass shell case that measures 20 inches or 51cm in height. The shell case has been beautifully decorated in the trench art style and has an attractive type of hammered affect to the surface and features a large rampant lion with title, LION D' ARRAS 1914. The base has makers details, KARTH 253 POLTE OCT 1915 MAGDEBURG. As this is a German shell case it could have been decorated by German or British Soldier although it was probably British. The shell case is very tall and it certainly makes an impressive ornament but it would also make an excellent walking stick stand. Trench art shell cases are fairly common but are normally much smaller in size, this example is much rarer because of the large size. It is rather heavy so postage will probably be fairly expensive.
