This bronze medallion commemorates the German sinking of the British passenger ship the Lusitania by a German U-boat during WW1. Silver bullion with metal fittings, the spring clips are in good working order. Kaki canvas type backing material, this is a similar type of material as tropical bayonet frogs are produced from. I believe that straps with this type of cloth backing were worn by officers serving in a tropical climate such as Africa, they are rare as in 35 years I have only owed two or three sets at the most.
